52 Buckets

As part of my prefer-paper-initiative, I did an experiment over the last month of writing down what seem to be the categories I think in, like MY categories. I started with 52 slots because that’s how many weeks are in a year, and eventually I want to use a calendar cycle for organizing my concepts. Usually when an idea comes to visit it feels fresh, like the first time I’m thinking it, but I want to understand when I am actually repeating myself, or when it’s a new idea. So, 52 buckets, like catchment, and on one sheet of paper it’s easy to scan the list to see if the idea before me is new or if it fits somewhere already established.

Now that I’ve made one list of 52, I am going to go through and combine some closely related entries, disentangle others. I want to make room for more ideas to get slotted. I have inklings how I would like to order the buckets, eventually, like maybe seasons or maybe some other 4 part structure… But for this first iteration, I just recorded the ideas in the order they arrived.
